Since the time I first set foot on the Cayuse Ranch and saw these amazing horses called the Spanish Mustang, they have become my passion in life. Like many other Spanish Mustang owners, I have had the yearning to research the lineage of my horses and to see the horses that are responsible for what we all have now, or desire to have. The lineage is the easy part, but to see the horses of the past has proven to be a challenge. It has been my intention for some time to put together a photo album starting with the first 500 or so horses that were registered in the Spanish Mustang Registry. This is a task that has become very disappointing and frustrating to me, as I'm sure it has been to others before me that have tried. I have placed ads in the SMR Newsletter, written personal pleas, and made phone calls begging for photos. Understandably, people that have old pictures don't want to part with them even long enough to make copies or send to be scanned, for fear that they will be lost. I do understand their reasons as frustrating as it is to me. What I am afraid of, is that if this project is not completed, by me or someone else, that the pictures that are out there will be lost as more time passes. So I have decided to post the pictures that I do have here on my web page in hopes that when they are seen, it will stir those that have pictures to realize how important these horses from the past are to us all and to the future of the Spanish Mustangs. We are a great family, the members of the SMR, and we are always trying to find better ways to promote our horses. I feel that this project is one that will benefit all the members now and in the future. So if you have old pictures, or know someone that does, PLEASE help me or someone else that you know by sending copies via e-mail, snail mail, or whatever means you can so the horses From the Past aren't lost forever. The photos that follow were sent to me by various members of the SMR. I want to THANK YOU if you sent me photos, it is a start! As you'll see I haven't done much to edit these pictures, they are pretty much the same as when they came to me. I did edit for size on some and had to do some minimal editing on others. The quality is not great on some, but I think that is part of what makes an old photograph so interesting and captivating. Feel free to send in any information, stories, or interesting facts about these horses or any of the SMR horses that may enter this page in the future. I will update this page as new pictures come to me. So for now, enjoy the horses……………. |
